Green Acres

I have seen a quote floating around for years which says, “Sometimes it’s not the person you miss but the feeling you had when you were with them.” I think you can feel the same way about a place.

I was in prayer today when the thought of my parents came into my spirit. I thank God they are now friends after 40 years of no communication. Suddenly a well of thankfulness rose up in me, and I began to weep. You see, my parents divorced when I was two; and my whole life, I have no memory of them even speaking to each other–let alone being in the same room.

Writer’s Block

I’ve been wanting to write something for a while now. Sometimes, I feel I don’t have anything worthwhile to say. Experts say when you have writer’s block, the best thing to do is just write. Odd how that works. So here I am just writing whatever comes to mind- assuming something will.

Delayed but Not Denied

There once was a boy who was six months away from his eighteenth birthday. Almost an adult now, he wanted nothing more than to have his own car. All his friends had their own car, but he was still taking the bus to school. Anytime he wanted to go somewhere, he had to find a ride, walk, or ride his bike. It just wasn’t fair.

Dave Ramsey Would Disapprove

Let me start off by saying- I love Dave Ramsey. I have read some of his books, follow him on Instagram, and use the EveryDollar app to track my budget. I love how he’s not afraid to talk about his faith and encourages others to pay tithes/give ten percent to charity. That being said, I don’t agree with a few things.

Keeping Hope Alive

The weather forecast calls for temperatures in the 80s and 90s this week. The kids and I are going camping with our church this weekend. People are still swimming and taking their boats out on the lake. But I can tell winter is coming.

The leaves on the tree outside my bedroom window started turning from green to red a couple weeks ago. Many of them have already fallen to the ground. The night air is too crisp to sleep with the window open, and my feet are cold against the kitchen floor in the morning. The kids have started back to school, and I was starting to lose hope in my dreams for this year.

Scheming and Dreaming

I’ve not been inspired to write lately- unless you count the six-page post I recently completed on my gluten, sugar, and dairy-free journey. I guess I’ve been in a bit of a funk. I mean, with everything going on in the world right now, I suppose that’s understandable. World events generally don’t faze me too much, but COVID-19 has changed the global society, so how could I not be a bit disturbed? Then with everything that is going on right now with racism and the riots- it’s all just too much.

Life’s Not Fair, But God is Good

I learned something today- life’s not fair. The rich get richer while the poor stay poor. Innocent children die of horrible diseases while various adults treat their bodies horribly and live into old age. Couples who would be excellent parents can’t conceive while others abuse their children. Some married couples fight constantly and cheat while their single friends dream of having a spouse.

That is just life, and it’s not fair. I’m not the only one who thinks so. The Bible is full of people asking God about the unfairness of it all:

Exquisite Attire

Some women love to shop. Me, not so much. It doesn’t help that my age places me somewhere between Rue 21 and Chico’s; no offense if you like Chico’s…

Also, the fact that I’m a single mom who has many bills every month puts my clothing budget far below my taste. I walk past Banana Republic, Kate Spade, and Ann Taylor while gazing longingly through the glass at the beautiful dresses on display.

Seventeen
