God Loves Surprises

I am currently planning a trip for myself and the kids. I love to surprise them, so I am not telling them until the day we leave. I wonder if that’s why God keeps us in the dark regarding His plans; He loves to surprise us too!

At times, the kids will catch me in my planning phase and sense that something is up. They might see me making reservations online, buying road trip snacks, or fueling up the car. They know something is coming, but they don’t know what or when. Sometimes we can see God working, but we don’t know when the blessing will arrive.

Occasionally, I even have to ask them to do things to prepare, but I must be careful not to ruin the surprise. This is tricky because they get suspicious and start asking questions. The same thing occurs in our walk with God. He may ask us to do specific things to prepare for our blessing, but we still don’t know when it will happen. That’s when we get really eager and excited in our wait.

Pretty soon, the big day arrives, and my plans are revealed. Everyone is thrilled, and the kids will make comments like, “That’s why you were looking at hotels the other day!” All the little hints and clues finally fit together.

You may be in a season of knowing God has a plan in the works, but He hasn’t divulged His surprise yet. Just hold on, the big day is coming!
