Back in my nursing school days, I had a homework question:
” What about our DNA makes us human?”
Moral Conscience
My answer- “Although I have read about and agree with the physical, human characteristics produced by DNA, I believe what truly makes us human is so much more than that. The most intriguing of these traits, to me, is our ‘moral conscience’.
Where did this develop from? There is no DNA inherited from our ancestors that can explain it. I also find religion, spirituality, and philosophy interesting. These are distinctly human and have probably evolved as our bigger brains have a better developed cerebrum.
Unique Creation
Other remarkable abilities of humans are the ability to make art and music. These do seem to be DNA based and the genes are not found in other animals, including apes.
Overall, I think we are uniquely human because we were created that way. “
