Nine years ago today I made a decision which changed the trajectory of my life. I was a backslider who had decided to come back to church. It wasn’t Easter, Christmas, Mother’s Day, or any other special day of the year. It was just a beautiful, springy Sunday morning here in the Pacific Northwest.

High Priority

While driving down the road today, I saw a billboard sign that depicted a family washing their car. The advertisement was for a church and said, “Busy? We now have a 5 p.m. service!”

As a working, single mom, I understand busy. I also understand that weekends are usually more for errands and cleaning the house than anything fun or relaxing. But this billboard just rubbed me the wrong way.

Texas was home for my first eighteen years until 1997 when I moved up north to first Montana then Washington.  I now have four children and due to the cost of plane tickets, I am only able to go visit every two to three years. In fact, until this past December, I hadn’t been home for Christmas since before I left in 1996.

Don’t Wait for a Revival

 Our annual youth convention is only eight days away. I must confess, it is the highlight of my year. Why is that? Because we usually have a powerful move of God every service!

What separates these services apart from any other service? Usually, I will pray more and fast the days leading up to youth convention. Is that what makes a difference? Maybe, but I think the difference is that we come expecting.

How to Bring Down Walls

I’ve been coming to church for eight years now, and although I’m always faithful to come to services, I have always struggled with the daily walk. Lately, I’ve really been trying to be more consistent with daily prayer and Bible reading every single morning before I check my phone.
