Have you ever had a chain of events happen that led to something unexpected? If the timing of even one thing in that chain was off, the end result would not have happened. It’s so crazy to me when this happens. In fact, it happened to me just yesterday.
I had to go to the mall to pick up a pair of shoes I ordered online for my son. Before I left the house, my kids were arguing about which one ate the last cookies and cream Pop Tart. As a result, it took longer for me to leave than I expected. Once I got to the mall, I parked in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods as usual. As I walked through the store, I debated on buying a softball that reminded me of a dear friend who had recently passed away. I thought about it for several minutes before deciding not to get it.
After leaving the store, I was walking through the mall and happened to look up at the man in front of me. He was wearing the exact same hoodie with a skull on the back that my deceased friend had! I teared up a little and walked by. Then I stopped, turned around, and told the man that his hoodie was the same as my friend’s who had died a few weeks ago. He said he was sorry, and I told him, “It’s ok. He’s just reminding me he’s here.”
The timing of me leaving my house, debating over the softball, running into the stranger, and the fact that it was the same hoodie had to have been God. He loves us so much and knows what we need. If any of those events leading up to that moment had been even a few seconds off, I likely would have never run into that man and received my “God wink.”
During my Bible reading today, I came across 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which says, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” If God can orchestrate my little surprise at the mall, He can surely direct my steps and my future. Even when circumstances are hard and don’t make any sense at the moment, they may be just one step in a chain reaction that leads to something wonderful. Don’t lose heart, just trust God that He will work it all out for good.
